Multicore, compilation are key on embedded roadmap

HiPEAC, a project on high performance embedded applications and compilers, started in 2004 with European Union funding, has produced a guide to the major challenges facing embedded applications for the next several years.

With a special kick-off meeting in Gothenburg, Sweden, the European Network of Excellence HiPEAC (High-Performance and Embedded Architecture and Compilation) has now been launched. The network will coordinate nine research clusters that will look into on-chip multi-cores technology and customisation, leading to heterogeneous multi-core systems.

HiPEAC-project krijgt nieuwe financiering en meer uitgebreide opdracht

Het HiPEAC-project zal de komende vier jaar het onderzoek rond chip- en compilertechnologie in Europa coördineren en stimuleren. Het beschikt daarvoor over een totaal budget van 4,8 miljoen euro. Volgens coördinator Prof. Koen De Bosschere van de Universiteit Gent moet Europa zijn sterke positie in ingebedde technologie veilig stellen en uitbreiden naar andere systemen.
