Groups (with mailing list and SVN)


It is possible to create a private group on the HiPEAC website or to join an existing group.

Such a group provides:

  • The possibility to make a kind of "wiki pages" which
    • can be modify by all the members of your group
    • are per default private (i.e. only visible for the members of your group)
    • can be made public by modifying the audience (see below)
  • A mailinglist @hipeac.net
  • An SVN directory

Join an existing group

  • it is possible to join some groups depend to their status. A group can be
    • public all inscription are automatically accepted
    • moderated your inscpription must first be approve by the group's administrators
    • closed you can not request to join this group, members of this kind of group are added by the group's administrators
  • To join a public or moderated group:
    • go to the groups directory page and use the link "subscribe" next to the appropriate group
    • or go to the main page of the group and use the link "Join" on the group blok in the right margin
    • If you request a subscription for a moderated group, you'll have to wait until the administrators approve your insctiption to be part of the group

Group's wiki pages

  • Each group can have is own wiki pages that are per default private (e.g. only visible for the members of the group) but can also be public by modifying the audience
  • To post in your group, you can use the link "create a group page" in your group blok, it will provide you a form with some fields to complete:
    • Title and body
    • Audience: in this field you can specify wich users can view your post, select the appropriate check boxes:
      • by default, only the check box that correspond to the group in which you are posting is selected, that means that the post will appear in this group and will be visible for all the members of the group, this are private pages
      • if you want to make the post also visible to all visitors of the HiPEAC website, you can check also the box Public (do not uncheck the check box for the group in which you are posting)
      • if you're a member of more than one group, you can select all the groups in wich you want that your post appear
      • Note that the audience specify the group(s) in which the post will be show, do not uncheck the box of the group you are writting for!

Using SVN

  • each group has a private SVN map on the HiPEAC server,
  • You get access to the SVN of your groups with the link in the group menu (right). Use your login and pass from the HiPEAC site. Using Windows, you can use a client like Tortoise for read/write access to the SVN-directory. Linux users normally have an svn client installed. All SVN-directories are backupped daily.
  • Note for old users accounts: your password may not be in the SVN access file, please change or re-enter your password once at My account (tab edit, don't forget to submit), it will then be saved in the SVN access file.

Cluster and groups

  • Each of the cluster listed on the HiPEAC² research Clusters page is a group to be a member of a cluster, you can request a subscription, like for any other group, by clicking on the Join link in the left colom on the cluster home page or by using the groups directory page.
  • All the cluster's groups are moderated by the coordinators of the each cluster, you will then wait until your application is accepted before you can be part of the group.

Creation of a new group

  • Creating a new group is done by clicking on the CREATE A NEW GROUP button on the groups directory page
  • The following features are automaticaly create:
    • Mailinglist: a new email address (@hipeac.net) is created. Mails to this address are forwarded to all the group members.
    • SVN: a new SVN directory is created.
    • You get access to your SVN with the link in the group menu (right). Use your login and pass from the HiPEAC site. Maintaining a group

  • As creator of a group, you receive admin rights over it.
  • You can manage your group's members: add, delete or give them admin rights themselves.
  • Group admins can also use the mail form to send an email to all the members (although it is more useful to use the mailinglist).
