NSF (Rutgers) - HiPEAC Collaboration on Cooperative Embedded Computing

NSF (Rutgers) - HiPEAC Collaboration on Cooperative Embedded Computing

The main objective of this cluster is to continue the permanent collaboration we have with Rutgers University (discolab.rutgers.edu) under the NSF/IST collaboration programme.

During 2005, we worked on the optimization of cooperative embedded computing for car-to-car short-range wireless communication. In the period 2006, Carlos Villavieja, a Phd Student at UPC, worked in Rutgers with Professor Liviu Iftode during 3 months. The work done during the stay has helped to agree on a common framework to develop the two groups’ research goals. Currently, the framework has been developed for multicore processors in order to increase security and reliability of applications.

Two faculty members from UPC visited Rutgers, March 2006, and met Rutgers students and faculty.

As part of the cluster, a 2 day workshop at Rennes University, during June 2006, was co-organized with INRIA. Several members of Rutgers attended the workshop and several cluster meetings took place. Carlos Villavieja gave a presentation about the current status of the project titled "Continuous Monitoring using MultiCores".

We just remind the 6th EU Programme had no funds allocated for this purpose, and the IST recommendation is to assign some funds from the HiPEAC clusters CFP for the HiPEAC European partners, in order to facilitate the organization of meetings, the attendance to the NSF/IST Workshops, and to cover the work done by the exchange students while they are working in Europe (NSF only covers the trips and stays of these students while they are in USA).
